Kelly the Cub Scout

I was never a Cub Scout because I was born a girl and I wasn't allowed to participate. However my older brother Bliss was a Cub Scout and he hated it. I developed an elaborate fantasy around my bother's cub scout shirt that he wore when he was 10 years old. This shirt now fits me as an adult and I wore it to create "Kelly the Cub Scout" who lives out a small town fantasy childhood. The name "Kelly" is from my stepbrother who is a Dentist by day and an actor by night in small local plays. Seven was my favorite number as a child so it dictates the size of this project. There are 21 photographs in the series that are 7 inches square.

Special thanks to Vermont Studio Center for giving me the time and space to create this work.
